singer, multi-instrumentalist, composer, exploring her way through pop, soul, R&B, and experimental jazz
Margarida Campelo is a very active presence in the Portuguese music scene.
A versatile singer, keyboardist, and composer, she’s been a long-time collaborator of Bruno Pernadas and a steady creative partner in bands like Cassete Pirata, Joana Espadinha, Minta & the Brook Trout, Afonso Cabral, as well as with Real Combo Lisbonense.
She has been featured on records by artists such as Salvador Sobral and Samuel Úria.
“(…) Margarida Campelo has found a very special and distinctly Portuguese place for soul, tinged with jazzy experimentation and scented with class.”
Gonçalo Palma
“(…) Supermarket Joy is an exuberant and, as the artist herself has emphasized, ‘unashamed’ collection of songs (…) with an unrelenting boldness rooted in a rigorous musical education drawn from the kind of record collection that would make the guardians of ‘good taste’ (whatever that means…) shudder — and precisely for that reason, it aligns with a certain pop vanguard that has thrilled audiences in this restless present, from Thundercat to Silk Sonic, or from Eddie Chacon to DOMi & JD BECK. Yes, it really is that good.”
Rui Miguel Abreu
In 2025, Margarida was a finalist at Festival da Canção, Portugal’s national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest.
Alongside her artistic work, Margarida is a dedicated educator and has been teaching for over 15 years at the jazz school of Hot Clube de Portugal.
